The Catholic Monarchs strengthened their commitment to the Jacobean route with the construction of one of the most outstanding buildings: the Hospital of the Catholic Monarchs in Santiago de Compostela. This hospital was founded in 1499 and functioned as a reception centre for sick and needy pilgrims. <\/p>\n\n

This hospital is in the Plateresque style, combined with Gothic and Renaissance elements; it has four courtyards, a church and rooms for medical staff. Its construction revolutionised care for pilgrims, as it provided medical services, food and accommodation in hygienic conditions. Currently, the complex is a Parador de Turismo. <\/p>\n\n
